EDA Board Member Starts Business

Bruceton resident and Preston County EDA board member, Laura Dulaney has opened a new business. Padlz Canoe and Kayak Rentals is next to the Bruceton Dam. An easy put-in for the watercraft is located at Laura's site. This is an ideal spot to start kids paddling. There are many whitewater businesses in the area, but nothing for kids. Laura rents the kayaks and canoes with life preservers and paddles. She also offers a short demonstration on how to hold the paddles and how to sit in the boats. The waterway above the dam on the Big Sandy is called Bruceton Mills Lake. This is a calm body of water. There is no motorboat traffic. It is an ideal place to kayak and canoe and also for fishing. The dam and the river at Clifton Mills are stocked by the Division of Natural Resources. The Mill Place Restaurant in Bruceton Mills can pack a picnic lunch. The Mill Place Hardware has fishing supplies. They are both beside Padlz. Two hour rentals are $15 for a single kayak and $20 for a double kayak or canoe. Children under 12 get a $5 discount. To find Padlz, take WV 26 to Bruceton, cross the bridge and turn right onto Mill Street. Padlz is open every day but Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 304-777-3665 or go to Padlz for reservations.
